This 4,600 square foot home, situated near the beautiful Hyalite foothills, offers room to roam with 3,700 square feet on the main floor and 900 square feet in the bonus area above the garage. Designed and built by Constructive Solutions, Inc., this home is the product of a close collaboration between the client and the CSI architectural staff. By working together, the homeowners’ goals for a grand, high performance home could be realized.
On the exterior, stone and timber ground the stained cedar and fir siding which give the home a classic structure. This style continues in the open great room and kitchen where the monumental masonry fireplace is balanced with the granite double island. Heavy timber trusses provide dramatic, artistic structure, while the large great room windows allow the interior spaces to extend outdoors and embrace the incredible views.
The sunroom, intimate stamped/stained patios, and an outdoor living room satisfied the client’s desire to participate and entertain in the Montana outdoors. The homeowner’s love of color and distinctive finish choices add the final touch of personality.
Beneath the surface, you’ll find the home boasts state-of-the-art building science. The handcrafted finishes conceal 8″ Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) walls that provide superior insulation and protection against air infiltration. This airtight wall assembly maintains an impressive R-31 insulation while the roof assembly provides an R-51. A geothermal heat pump provides heating and cooling to the home’s air handling unit, and the heat recovery ventilator (HRV) and humidifier provide fresh air while maintaining indoor temperature and humidity. The home is wired for audio and network connectivity, as well as pre-wired for a solar panel array, preparing it for future technologies and even increased performance. All this results in a home projected to use 50% less energy than a standard new home (without the solar array), and to be quieter, more comfortable and remarkably durable as well.
During the summer of 2018, CSI designed and constructed an additional barn onto the property, giving the estate a completed feel. The cedar lap siding, cedar trim, and corrugated rusted steel on the exterior compliment the existing home, while the classic red garage and steel entry doors bring a pop of color and something new to the structures. The bronze stained concrete bordering the driveway mimics the amber tones of both the barn and the residence while matching the stain of the original concrete. The barn’s open plan allows the owners to store all their large Montana toys while the slim, symmetrical design does not distract, but enhances the views of the existing residence to the west.
